Richard Allan 'Dick' Klusmeyer

Richard Allan "Dick" Klusmeyer, 73, of Hannibal, MO, formerly of Mendon, IL died Wednesday, November 18, 2020, after a 9 year battle with cancer. Dick was born on March 28, 1947 in Quincy, IL, the son of William "Bud" and Blanche Klusmeyer. He married Jerri Shupe on January 25, 1970. She survives.

Dick grew up on South 36th Street in Quincy, IL. He was known for his "flattop" haircut that he has had since he was in grade school. Dick attended St. James Grade School until 8th grade and graduated from Quincy High School in 1965. Dick attended college at Missouri S & T, formerly the University of Missouri, Rolla. He graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1970 and was a member of the Chi Epsilon Fraternity, a National Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity. His career started at Gulf Oil in Washington DC. He and his wife Jerri moved home from Virginia in 1971 to take a position as the Assistant County Engineer for the Adams County Highway Department in Quincy, IL. He obtained his Illinois P.E. (Professional Engineer) license in 1975. Dick took over as the Adams County Engineer in 1984. He also served part time as the County Engineer for Brown County from 1978 – 1985. He retired from the Adams County Highway Department after 39 years in 2010.

Dick had multiple awards and honors over his forty year career as an engineer including IL County Engineer in 1983 and 1999. He was inducted into the Academy of Civil Engineers at the University of Missouri Rolla in 2004. One major accomplishment for Adams County under his leadership was the geographical information system (GIS) that launched in 1992. The Adams County GIS was a finalist for the Outstanding Civil Engineering Projects in the nation. Dick helped with the Great Flood of 1993 and served as the Floodplain Manager for Adams County. Dick was known as the guy in the county to "get the job done" and has often been referred to as "Mr. Adams County".

Dick was a member of many professional organizations and served on several boards. Most recently he was an executive board member of GREDF and on the Port Authority Committee for Quincy, IL.

Dick was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Quincy, IL.

Dick enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and was a very avid golfer. He always had a project going on at his home and was always helping out friends and family on a project. Dick was always on the go and would spend hours driving around looking at roads. Dick knew every road in Adams County by heart.

Dick is survived by his wife Jerri and his three children, Richard (Sara) Klusmeyer II of Mendon, IL, Seth (Holly) Klusmeyer of Quincy, IL, and his daughter, Alicia (Dave) Weiman of Palmyra, MO. He has six grandchildren, Will (fiancé Brooke Vancil) and Taylor Klusmeyer, Dax Klusmeyer, Ava, Kale and Emelia Weiman.

Richard Seth and Alicia

We are very sorry to hear about the loss of your father Dick. He was an All American Hometown Hero for all the great projects he did. He took so much pride in his work, and volunteer efforts. I really appreciated knowing him. Your Dad will be missed here on earth but he will be added to Heavens treasure chest of Jewels looking down on earth and shining brightly from Heaven. He will most likely be looking over all the road projects. Our prayers are with you in this most difficult time.
