Phyllis Ann Maxwell

Phyllis Ann Maxwell age 82, of Quincy died on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in her home. Phyllis was born in Quincy on June 18, 1940, a daughter of James E. and Florence R. (Broemmer) Patterson. She married Robert Maxwell in St. Francis Catholic Church on June 3, 1961, he preceded her in death on February 8, 1969. On August 14, 1969, Phyllis married Joseph Furhman, in St. Francis Catholic Church. He preceded her in death April 4, 1975. She married Ralph E. Maxwell on May 5, 1980, in Palmyra, MO and he died January 23, 2013.

Phyllis was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the former St. Mary Hospital and later at Transitions of Western Illinois from where she retired in 2008. She was a graduate of St. Francis Grade School, Notre Dame High School and from the JWCC LPN program.

She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Francis Solanus Parish.

In 2021, she was honored by being named a Woman of Distinction by the Diocese of Springfield, IL. She was a member of the Order of Secular Franciscans, she participated in the Giving Tree Program and the St. Francis Food Pantry. Phyllis had served as a member of the Liturgy Planning Committee and St. Francis Pastoral Council.
Survivors include her son, James W. Fuhrman of Fort Leavenworth, KS; a daughter, Cindy Cook and her husband Russell Cook of Mendon, IL.
Two brothers, Gene Patterson and his wife Lynda of Liberty, Il and Mike Patterson and his wife Prudy of Quincy.
Grandchildren: Emily Cook and her husband Jeffrey Turner of Bloomington, IN; Sarah Cook (Johnny Mullett) of St. Louis, MO and Samuel Cook of Ballwin, MO. Nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her husbands, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Robert Joseph Fuhrman.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested to the Franciscans of Sacred Heart Province or to Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
