Joann Alma Thrasher

Joann Alma Thrasher age 88, of Rockford, IL formerly of Quincy, IL died on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Rockford, IL. Joann was born in Quincy on June 15, 1932, a daughter of Fred A. and Olivia C. (Kurz) Pape. She married Chas. Richard "Dick" Thrasher on October 7, 1978 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1982.

She was a graduate of St. Francis Grade School and a 1950 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She attended Gem City Business College.

Professionally, Joann began working at Gem City Savings and Loan on September 15, 1955 where she was a stenographer and teller for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

Joann was a lifetime member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was an active member of the Ladies of St. Francis, a member of the parish's Finance Council and had served at Secretary.

Joann loved to travel and traveled to Europe, Hawaiian Islands and all over the USA!

Joann stayed active after her retirement as a member of Friends of the Quincy Public Library, she also volunteered at Blessing Hospital, the Library and at the Gardner Museum.

Survivors include her sister, Barbara J. Graham of Rockford, IL. Nieces and nephews: Jay Graham (Maggie), David Graham (Bonnie), Karen Graham (Dan), Mike Graham , Julie Ann Graham (Dan), Jeffery Pape (Diane), Mark Hartman (Cheryl), and Great nieces and nephew: Casey Graham, Cookie Graham, Nora Lerner, Ozali Illian and Levi Lerner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Rosemary E. Hartman and a brother William E. Pape.

The family would like to thank Bickford Administration and Staff and to Northern Illinois Hospice for the special care given to Joann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, Quincy. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Francis Church, Notre Dame High School, Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Foundation.

What a nice lady!!! Meet her when I first stared attending St Francis Church as she taught to be a Sacristan. Took the time to type me out some very helpful notes to guide me along the way. Good teacher. Rest in Peace Joann.

Joann and my mother (Norma Thieman (Liesen) were best of friends as children growing up on Oak Street. Mom would always love to tell stories of her and Joann.

I was privileged to work with Joann on two other of her volunteer involvements--commitments which were not mentioned, but to which she was totally dedicated. For years she typed up all the sets of cards for the St. Francis School library card catalog. Also, for years she supported the Right to Life of Adams County by regularly staffing their Resource Center. It was a pleasure to always be able to count on Joann.
So sorry for your loss of dear Joann. May God's peace be with all of you.

She was also a great traveling companion for my Mother Alice Johnson they had great times together . Their probably traveling all around heaven together .
