Betty Pauline Robb

Betty Pauline Robb

Betty Pauline Robb age 97, of Quincy departed earth peacefully on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 11:15 a.m. at the Illinois Veteran's Home. Betty was born in Rock Island, IL on April 9, 1924, a daughter of Charles P. and Hellan P. (Tracy) Gegenheimer. She married Donald A. Robb on Christmas Eve, 1940 in Davenport, IA. Don preceded her in death on July 19, 1996.

Betty was a copy technician and journeyman pressman for most of her adult life. She was retired from her work at John Wood Community College in the print shop. Betty was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 5129 and the Moose Lodge.

She was well known for her ornery yet competitive side; Betty was an avid pool player, a Scrabble expert, loved playing poker, and enjoyed many years playing in bowling leagues.

Betty was vivacious and her smile lit up the room. You could always find her with a tall Calvert's and water and a purse full of quarters. She liked to sing karaoke, dance to any tune, and she was an impressive whistler.

Her beloved dog Rascal was her protector and furry companion. Betty dearly loved her grandchildren (and all the "greats") and spending time with family and friends; never knew a stranger.

If you have been "Ishkabibble'd" by Betty perhaps that is now her message to us all to "not worry." And this is where we shall say "Grandma Betty – You did it just right…"

Survivors include a son, Donald L. Robb of Liberty, IL; grandchildren, Forrest "Chip" Garriga, Dale "Skip" Garriga, Shari Councell, Jonas Robb, and Glenda Robb. Numerous great, and great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters, a daughter Carol D. Robb, a grandson Jeremy L. Robb, two great-grandchildren, Grant and Kayla Garriga.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Todd Hastings. Interment will be in Mound Prairie Cemetery near Beverly, IL. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com

My condolences to the family. Betty and I have been co-workers at JWCC and friends for many years. I started at JWCC in 1987 in Instructional Technology and Telecommunications when we were at the 48th and Maine campus. Betty ran the Print Shop and made many copies for the various projects I was involved with. She always had a smile and a welcoming attitude. When I heard she was at the IL Vets Home, I arranged for her to attend our Retirees meeting via Zoom and after that we had a long conversation via Skype. In fact, I was just about to contact her again, after returning from an annual camping trip South in January and February, when I heard of her death. I will miss Betty’s sweet smile and optimistic attitude. Rest in peace Betty.
