Lawrence "Gene" Tournear

Lawrence 'Gene' Tournear, age 87, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in his home. He was born on June 16, 1933 in Liberty, IL the son of Clem and Valinda (Beckman) Tournear. He married Mildred A. 'Millie' Allensworth on March 13, 1957 in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2005. Mr. Tournear served in the United Stated Navy for 6 years and served during the Korean War. Upon his return to Quincy, he worked for Middendorf Lumber Co., and then later for Gardner Denver until his retirement in 1995. During those years, Gene also ran his own Garbage Hauling business. After his 'retirement', Gene worked for Denman Pharmacy, then later KAME Pharmacy, and then for the Senior Center until 2019.

Over the years, Gene greatly enjoyed his cars and trucks.

He is survived by:
A DAUGHTER: Regina Long (Steven Veile)
GRANDCHILDREN INCLUDING: Caleb Veihl, Emma Santos, Elijah Lawrence Veihl (Jasmine), Saige Elizabeth Veihl, Wynter Knight (Jared), Samuel Long and Phoenix Long.
GREAT GRANDCHLIDREN INCLUDING: Alleona Sparks, Abram Santos and Quinton Veihl
ONE SISTER: Beulah Peters and a SISTER-IN-LAW: Georgeann Tournear.
Gene is also survived by a son and his family along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his wife, Gene was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Jodi Louise Tournear, and Brothers: Loren, Russell and Dick Tournear.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 9:30 AM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #37 and the Navy Funeral Honor Detail. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family.
