JAMES B. DUESTERHAUS

JAMES B. DUESTERHAUS, AGE 78, of Quincy, died on Friday, December 3rd at Blessing Hospital. Jim was born in Quincy on November 9, 1943, a son of Virgil H. and Dorothy (Weltin)Duesterhaus. He is survived by his wife Karla Kay Lock whom he married on October 16, 1965, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Jim was a 1961 Graduate of Christian Brothers High School. He joined the Quincy Police Department in 1968, retiring as a sergeant in 1997.
He completed numerous training courses throughout his tenure with Q.P.D to include the Northwestern Traffic Institute School of Staff and Command. After retirement, he was a security guard at Mercantile Bank and later at the Social Security Office.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. In his younger years, Jim played football while at Illinois State University and played in numerous softball leagues in Quincy. He enjoyed fishing and duck hunting. Jim enthusiastically followed his grandchildren's activities and was very proud of each one of them.

In addition to his wife Karla, survivors include his two daughters, Ann Marie Bates and her husband Jim of Porter, IN and Linda Kay Lawrence and her husband Daniel of Lansing, KS. Four grandchildren; Caroline and Evan Bates; and Daniel and Emily Lawrence. Sisters-in-law, Sheila Duesterhaus of Beardstown, IL, and Mary Lock of Quincy and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom Duesterhaus, brother-in-law, Wayne Lock and in-laws, Jay and Pauline Lock.

The family would like to thank the Blessing Hospital ICU nursing and Respiratory Therapy staff for their care during Jim's hospital stay.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 9:15 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. If attending services, please wear a face mask. Memorials are suggested to Quincy Notre Dame Foundation or a Charity of the Donor's choice.
