Dale E. Vandenboom

Dale E. Vandenboom age 83, of Quincy died on Friday morning, December 3, 2021, in Blessing Hospital. He was born December 1, 1938, in Quincy, a son of Arthur R. and Agnes C. (Timpe) Vandenboom. Dale met the love of his life, Joy Alice Newbanks when they were teenagers. They were married October 3, 1959, in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, and she survives.

Dale traveled abroad for months at-a-time as a Program Manager for Harris Corp. He even took Joy, his wife on a month long trip to Europe, where they were blessed by the pope at the Vatican.

After retiring from Harris, a group of his buddies from Harris played golf and had breakfast together at least once a week. He also had time to restore and loved to drive his dark blue Model A.

Dale was a fantastic father, the best dad in the world and a wonderful person. He loved to tutor his daughters and grandchildren during their years in school, enabling them to succeed in their chosen fields.

In addition to his wife Joy, survivors include his two daughters, Susan Vandenboom of Quincy and Lori Vandenboom. Three grandchildren, Katelynn Vandenboom of Quincy; Dustin Buss of Georgia and Miley Buss of North Carolina. A great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Joy Vandenboom of Quincy; one brother, Dick Vandenboom and his wife Dawn of FL; two sisters, Dianne Swadner and her husband of Mark of CO and Donna Johnston and her husband of NC. Nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in-law, George Louis and Ruth (Clark) Newbanks, a grandson Dillon Buss and a great-granddaughter, Daphne Buss.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Duker Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
