John C. Horman

John C. Horman, age 86, of Quincy, died on Friday, July 29, 2022, in his home.

John was born March 29, 1936, in Golden Eagle, IL the son of John Henry and Trena (Snyders) Horman.

He graduated from Brussels High School in 1954 and from Iowa State University in 1961.

John proudly served his country in the Army from 1958-1960.

On August 17, 1963, John married Florence Joyce Bastean at St. Francis Church in Quincy.

John was employed by Prairie Farms Dairy for over 39 years and later worked for Enterprise Car Rental for more than 10 years.

Over the years, John was an active member of many organizations. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Holy Name Society, and attended St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

A skilled card player, John was a Euchre specialist and the "king of sets" in Pinochle. He taught his children and grandchildren both games. They learned so well from him that they would sometimes actually win! He also loved spending time gardening; he grew tomatoes and all kinds of produce.

John's favorite saying was, "Nothing is so constant as change".

John is survived by his wife Florence and children, Mark (Michelle) Horman, Debbie (Lenny) Million, David (Christine) Horman, and Susan (Scott) Parke.

He was blessed to have numerous grandchildren: Grace Horman (Cortney Jumper), Charlotte Horman (fiancé Samuel Anderson), Drew (Jessi) Million, Alex (Madalyn) Million, Mitchell Horman (fiancé Abigail Kemp), Mason Horman, and Maxwell Horman. He was the great-grandfather of Gia Million and another great-grandchild on the way.
A sister: Rita Wyatt, brothers and sister-in-law, Robert Bastean, Bernard (Mary) Bastean. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Anton Horman and Gerald F. Horman; two sisters, Lucille Sork and Rose Arthur; brother and sister-in-laws: Dorothy Horman, Marshall Sork, Richard Morris, Adrian Wyatt, Richard Arthur, Albert and Mary Jo Bastean, Janet Bastean, Mary E. and Lowell Wasson, and Thomas Bastean.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, by Rev. Steven Arisman. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.


Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
