Janet Ann Hilgenbrinck

Janet Ann Hilgenbrinck

Janet Ann Hilgenbrinck, 86, a lifelong resident of Ursa, IL., died August 16, 2022. After several chemotherapy treatments for liver cancer, Janet made the courageous decision to be cared for in the home. She furthered her treatment moving from Palliative Care to then enter the Blessing Health System Hospice Care program. Janet was born on February 8, 1936, and graduated from Unity High School in Mendon, IL in 1954. On July 24, 1954, she married William 'Bill' A. Hilgenbrinck. This past July, Janet and Bill celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Janet is survived by her husband, Bill and their children, Kent, Ursa; Matt (Bobbi), Laray, MO.; Linda (Tammy), Lake Dallas, TX.; Tim (Debra), Ursa; William (Deann), Mendon; and Elizabeth (Ricky), Adkins, TX. Janet also leaves behind her sisters Karen (Joe) Nolan; Nancy (Larry) Crow; and brothers Dean Andrew; and Neal (Janie) Andrew. She is preceded in death by two infant daughters, Ruth and Marie; her parents Elva and Ruth Andrew; a brother Keith; Herman and Marie Hilgenbrinck as well as Don and Eleanor Hilgenbrinck; Robert and Mary Hilgenbrinck; John and Marilyn Starman; and Earl and Geraldine Foust. Janet was the proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 deceased great grandchildren. Oh, how she loved to hold all the babies in the family. She was loved by a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Janet's involvement in her community ranged from being a past PTA President at Greenfield Grade School, a volunteer with the Lima Lucky Clovers 4-H Club and assisted at the Adams County Fair during fair time. She was an active member of the Ursa Indian Grave Home Extension Unit and the Birthday Bunco Club. Janet lived her life as a faithful servant to Bill, her family, and their Catholic religion. She was an active member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society's. Janet and Bill loved attending their children and grandchildren's athletic events. Both, Janet, and Bill were inductees into the Unity High School Athletic Department Hall of Fame as Supporters in 2016.

Janet worked diligently on the family farm to plant a large garden, to can and freeze the garden produce, and to raise chickens and assist with livestock to feed her family. Her greatest accolades can be heard from her children and grandchildren as they eagerly waited and enjoyed her fresh baked brownies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, desserts, and meals. Janet's baking skills resulted in her competing and winning at the Illinois State Fair Bake-Off competitions. She assisted with many other responsibilities on the farm and supported Bill at the Marcelline Farm Supply. Her love for crafting lead her to be a co-owner of Kountry Kousins Craft and Cheese Shop. She loved reading and then listening to books on tape; watching butterflies and birds; waiting for flowers around the home to bloom; but mostly she loved time with her ever-growing family. Janet is well known for her Bob Ross style paintings of which many paintings were given as gifts. Family and friends treasure these paintings as they decorate the walls of their homes. Janet and her artwork were featured on the Blessing Health System, Project Hope, Hospice Program entitled 'Janet's Art'. On behalf of Janet, Bill, and the entire family, a heart-felt thanks is extended to the following Hospice staff that cared so wonderfully for Janet: Molly Schulte, Joanie Obert and Connie Bealor and private care giver, Erica Miller for their in-home care, fellowship, and love provided.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mendon, IL. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home, Quincy. Memorials may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church Parish School of Religion or Blessing Foundation for Hospice. Messages for the family may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com.

Our Family extends our condolences to your entire family. Heaven has gained a great treasure from earth. I know her light will shine bright from heaven. Your Mother was a wonderful example of living a great catholic life such a kind and loving person. I enjoyed watching her and your family grow in our church.

Your Mother was so kind, and I remember many of times enjoying her baked goods at church. She was a remarkable example of community in our local area she was involved in so much.

May her perpetual light shine bright over earth I am sure you will have no problem seeing her light on in heaven. Your family will be in our prayers.
