Joan T. McGee

Joan T. McGee

Joan Theresa McGee, age 88, formerly of 1607 Ohio, died at Good Samaritan Home on September 6, 2017.

Joan was born on July 13, 1929, in Quincy, Il, a daughter of William Sander and Bertha Bergman Sander. On June 18, 1949, she married Auris M. McGee, Jr. in St. Mary Catholic Church in Quincy, Il. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2003.

Joan graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1947. Following graduation, she pursued a career as a secretary, first at Moorman Manufacturing, and years later at the Adams County Farm Bureau. Joan belonged to St. Boniface Church for many years, where she was an active member and volunteer. In recent years, she belonged to St. Peter Catholic Church, where she also enjoyed volunteering her time. In addition, Joan volunteered and served on the board of directors for Quincy Catholic Charities

Enjoying life was a key theme of Joan's life. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to many card clubs. Jo, as many knew her, enjoyed seeing people and going places. She had many friends and did not know a stranger. Her friends and family will never forget her infectious laugh and sense of fun.

Of all the things Joan enjoyed, her family was the most important. Her children benefited from the kindest of mothers'. Her grandchildren will always remember her love of Christmas, Easter egg hunts, and her singing the National Anthem before each backyard wiffle ball game. In later years, Joan delighted in hosting coffee on Saturday mornings for her family and visits with her great grandchildren.
Joan is survived by FOUR CHILDREN: Aurie McGee and his wife, Mary Beth, Kathy Harman and her husband, Dave and John McGee, all of Quincy; Patti Hogge of Lees Summit, Mo. All of the years that I was growing up at St. Boniface Grade School I saw Joan, her husband and many of their friends volunteer their time for the good of the school and the church. I especially remember all of the time that they spent working at the St. Patrick's Day lunch and dinner. What wonderful examples they were to show all of us in school how we should volunteer as we grew up. We were truly blessed to have them as wonderful examples on how to live our lives.
