Wilfred Alois Kaltenbach
Wilfred Alois Kaltenbach, 85, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, formerly of Quincy, died Sept. 19, 2016, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He was born Nov. 27, 1930, in Quincy, a son of Alois and Marguerite Schmidt Kaltenbach. He married Constance Reardon Sept. 3, 1960, in St. Rose Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death May 6, 2002. He married Audrey Zweck June 20, 2003, in Naples, Florida. She preceded him in death June 13, 2014.
Mr. Kaltenbach was a 1960 graduate of Saint Louis University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He subsequently became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio control operator, receiving his training in Biloxi, Miss., before serving during the Korean War in Darmstadt, Germany, from 1951-1955. He was a 1948 graduate of Liberty High School.
He was employed as executive vice president of Gem City Savings and Loan in Quincy for 22 years and was chief internal auditor with the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs in Springfield, Ill., and Quincy for seven years.
He received ecclesiastical honors and was presented with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross during the Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois' 2003 Jubilee. He was honored for his service to the church, including serving as a longtime member of the Diocesan Financial Council, a member of the advisory board for the Foundation for the People of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, past faithful navigator of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the board and past president of the Quincy Notre Dame Foundation. He was a longtime trustee and member of St. Peter Church and served on the Roman Catholic Cemetery Board in Quincy.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Lobo of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., and Ann Hayes of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two sons-in law, Carlos Lobo of Hawthorn Woods, and Rocky Hayes of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, Eric Hayes of University City, Mo., and Matthew Hayes of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Sabina (Glenn) Fessler of Fowler, Ill., and Marcella Fessler of Quincy; three step-children, Donna (Pete) Holohan of San Diego, California, Thomas Coluccio of Bonita, California, and Karen Scuderi of West Palm Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Vernon Kaltenbach and the Rev. Victor Kaltenbach; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Davidson; two brothers-in law, Dale Fessler and Roger Davidson; and a sister-in-law, Pat Kaltenbach.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in the Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame High School or St. Peter Church.
