Gerald Eugene "Jerry" Dopheide
Gerald Eugene "Jerry" Dopheide, age 71, of Quincy died on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 10:56 p.m. in Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on February 3, 1944 in Quincy, a son of Albert Frank & Rita Leona (Friedhoff) Dopheide. He married Nova Dawn Maglioacchetti on April 20, 1968 in St. Rose Catholic Church. She survives.
Jerry worked for thirty years as Traffic Production Sales Coordinator with Quincy Soybean until his retirement.
In his early years he enjoyed fishing, taxidermy, music and coin collecting. He refinished and restored many religious artifacts for St. Rose and St. Francis Catholic Churches. Jerry was contemplative and thorough in the planning and implementation of every project that he was involved in.
In his later years, he avidly listened to the scanner every day, he enjoyed watching You Tube, doing yardwork and playing games.
In addition to his wife, Nova, he is survived by four children, Thomas Dopheide of Quincy; Pete Dopheide of LaGrange, MO, Pamela Elizabeth Dopheide of Quincy & Marsha Marie Morgan and her husband Russ of Avon, IL; five grandchildren, Nicolas Dopheide, Donovan Dopheide, Katie Morgan, Brandon Morgan & Bianca Whitaker; one great-grandchild, Scarlett Mann; siblings, James (Helen) Dopheide, Sandra Terwelp & Kenneth (Pat) Dopheide, all of Quincy; and a half-brother Bob (Evelyn) Dopheide of Gainesville, FL. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Terwelp, and his most loving grandmother, Elizabeth C. Friedhoff.
To honor Jerry's wishes, private services will be held at a later date.
The family will meet with friends at St. Rose of Lima Parish Hall, 8th & Chestnut Streets, Monday, October 5, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Friary in Quincy or Friends of Kids with Cancer, 530 Maryville Centre Dr., Suite LL5, St. Louis, MO 63141.
The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
