Melissa "Missie" Lynn Ohnemus Moore

Boca Raton, FL – Melissa "Missie" Lynn Ohnemus Moore, 47, of Delray Beach, Fl (formerly of Quincy) died at 10:40 pm on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Palm Beach County, FL.

Missie was born April 6, 1971, in Quincy, to Daniel "Paul" Ohnemus and Linda Altrogge Ohnemus. She married Todd E. Moore on October 11, 2003, in an ocean side ceremony on the shores of Delray Beach, Florida. He survives.

Missie was a 1989 graduate of Payson Seymour High School. In December 2009, she graduated from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton with a bachelor of science in geographic information science. For 15 years, Missie was employed by Palm Beach County in the parks and fire and rescue departments, where she made many lasting friends. In March of 2018, she worked as a GIS tech for Florida Power and Light in Juno Beach, FL.

Missie was involved with the Blue Heron Bridge Preservation Initiative which is a group that helps protect the resources of Phil Foster Park. She was also a member of the Palm Beach County Reef Research Team (PBCRRT), a group of volunteer scuba divers who monitor artificial and natural reefs under the auspices of Palm Beach County Environmental Resources management. Missie loved being outdoors especially when she could spend time at the beach, go kayaking, diving, or snorkeling. She was an advocate for preserving the environment and rescuing cats, which she loved so dearly. Missie lived life to the fullest, traveling to spend time with family and friends, and spreading her laughter and smile to all who met her. She loved every minute she was able to spend playing with her niece and nephews who meant the world to her.

Survivors include her husband, Todd; step-son, Ronnie, step-daughter, Rosie, all of Delray Beach, FL; her mother, Linda Ohnemus, of Quincy; her father, Daniel "Paul" (Billie) Ohnemus, of Zion, IL; a brother, Mark (Lana) Ohnemus; 2 step-sisters, Shannon (Jim) Rizoff, of Brookston, IN and Andrea (Adam) Snow of Joliet, IL; 2 nephews, Alex (Debra) Ohnemus, and Jacob Ohnemus, a niece, Mackenize Ohnemus; a great nephew, Owen Ohnemus, all of Quincy; many step-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Missie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Daniel and Norma Ohnemus; her maternal grandparents, Virgil and May Altrogge, and a step-brother, James Stanton.

Cremation rights were handled by Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach, FL. A memorial service will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Church Gathering Space, in Quincy, IL on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 1pm-3pm. Memorials in honor of Missie can be made to Palm Beach County Reef Research Team (PBCRRT), 124 Cayman Drive, Palm Springs, FL 33461.
