Gerald Robert "Jerry" Johnson
Gerald Robert "Jerry" Johnson, age 79, of Quincy, died on Friday, October 26, 2018 in his home. He was born on December 20, 1938 in Peoria, IL the son of Gerald M. and Marie (O'Donnell) Johnson.
Jerry was a graduate of Quincy College and of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had earned his Master's degree in psychology and business administration. He served his country in the United State Navy. Jerry traveled extensively throughout his working career and had been employed as a schoolmaster in Canada and Australia. He had worked in Iraq in international business. Most recently he had taught psychology at John Wood Community College.
He loved animals and was very active with animal welfare, rights and rescue of all animals.
Jerry was very caring and concerned about the well-being of others. Jerry was always a devoted and loving brother.
Jerry is survived by one sister, Barbara Lane of Quincy. Nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lanny Johnson and one nephew Thomas Lane.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. There is no visitation but friends are invited to the memorial mass.
- Jerry was a good man. His sense of humor was a delight. His friends, students, and clients were blessed to know him. He will be missed.
