Ernest Lee Rupert, age 94, of Quincy, died on Monday, November 13, 2017 in his home.
He was born on Sept 28,1923, in Quincy, IL the son of the late Sarah Platt(Rupert) and Harry Rupert. He married Pearl N. Rupert(Betty) in 1945 in Moorehead City, North Carolina. She preceded him in death. Mr. Rupert served his country honorably as a Marine in WW2 in the Pacific Islands and Army in Korea, receiving 2 purple hearts and numerous commendations.
Ernie "Buddy" worked at Bueter Bakery in his early years then at Stover Air Cargo, then various jobs around Quincy. Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting playing baseball, cards, bowling in his early years. Gardening and going to McDonalds with his friends for coffee in the morning in his later years. He was able to go on the Great River Honor flight in 2013.
He will be sadly missed and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by 2 sons: James Rupert, Michael (Dianne) Rupert, both of Quincy, IL and a daughter-in-law Kathy Rupert of Shelbyville, MO. Grandchildren: Tammy (Von) Hartman, Troy (Anne) Rupert, Jeff (Julie) Rupert, Keith Rupert, Dion (Krissy) Rupert, Scott (Jill) Lundsford, Todd (Michelle) Rupert, Kelly Rogers, David (Serena) Rupert and Paul (April) Rupert, and Lisa (Zachrey) Couchman.
He is also survived by a sister, Eva Wellman, 26 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. "Buddy" also had a longtime companion Betty McColez.
He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl "Betty"; a son, Ronald Rupert; a granddaughter, Tracy Brumbaugh; a grandson, Michael Todd Rupert; three great grandsons Justus, Michael Dion II, and Jacob Rupert; two great granddaughters, Cassidy and Abigail Rupert.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at The Crossing 929. Visitation will be held at The Crossing 929 on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00 AM. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by the Marine Corps Burial Detail and the American Legion Post #37. Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight or The Crossing Food Pantry.
