Bernard H. "Bernie" Entrup

Bernard H. "Bernie" Entrup

Bernard H. "Bernie" Entrup, age 86 of 624 Pawn Avenue, died on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in St. Vincent Home. He was born on January 8, 1929 in Quincy, the son of George and Clara (Engels) Entrup. He married Marjean Rita Kroner on August 19, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1989. He later married Norma Gard. She survives.

Mr. Entrup worked for the Illinois Bell Company for over 39 years. He started with the phone company when there were party lines and his last phone call was Facetime with great-grandchildren. He also had designed and built a number of houses over the years but always managed to make time to coach little league and take family vacations to some awesome destinations. For Bernie it was about the journey and not the destination. He traveled to all 50 states of the United States as well as some international travel.

Bernie was one of the "good Samaritans" of his time, always available for helping a friend in need. Bernie could do most anything from wiring a house to changing the oil in the car to roofing a house to putting out a trout line. However, he never learned how to change a diaper.

Family was first, second, third and in things he most cherished until his final breath, he wanted to stay connected to those he loved.

He was a Dallas Cowboy fan, a Cardinal Fan and loved trains of all kinds. He was a member of the Elks and the K of C. He was a man with many interests, golfing, boating, fishing and bowling but his family time always came first. He loved their family gatherings, traveling with Norma, wintering in Florida and his river camp.

In addition to his wife Norma, he is also survived by:
FIVE CHILDREN: Mark (Peggy) Entrup, Matt (Kathy) Entrup; Mike (DeDe) Entrup; Tim (Julie) Entrup and Beth Entrup all of Quincy.
TWO STEP-CHILDREN: Bill (Cathy) Hyslop of Chicago and Carol Ann (Steve) Nudo of Quincy;
GRANDCHILDREN: Amy (Doug) Hoerr; Kevin (Chris) Entrup; Megan (John) Spilker; Luke (Sarah) Entrup; Alex (Erika) Entrup; Paul Entrup; Clare (Brian) Olberz; Eric ( Mindy) Entrup; Nicole (Justin Gilliland) Entrup; Brian Entrup; John Entrup; Emily Entrup; Denver Garkie and Marjean(MJ) Garkie
STEP-GRANDCHILDREN: Taylor Hyslop; Jack Nudo, Van Nudo, Sam Nudo; Brooke Hunsaker; BreAnn (TJ) Neisen and Josh Hunsaker and his fiance' Adriana Longobardi.
A SISTER: Georgian Belker
Along with 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by a son Christopher Entrup in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 11:00 in St Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis School, Blessing Hospital Foundation for Hospice or to the Quanada Pet-Friendly Shelter Program.
