Edward "Ed" Gene Burton

Edward "Ed" Gene Burton, age 88, of Quincy, died on Friday, April 26, 2019 in Blessing Hospital Emergency Room. Ed was born on June 19, 1930 in Quincy, the son of Jack and Mary Burton. He married Lillian Hartzell.

Ed graduated from Quincy High School. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He worked as a welder for forty-five years before retiring from Gardner Denver. Ed was member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a loving and caring man who would do anything for anyone. He enjoyed spending time at TNT and motorcycling with other Harley owners. Best of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren who he loved to spoil.

Ed is survived by one son: Archie (Melinda) Burton of Quincy; grandchildren: Jennifer Robertson of Quincy, Randeana Slater of Keokuk, IA, Dominic, Carrie, Seth, Kenady, Shawn, Mercedes, Jason, Jordan, Austin, Amie, Crystal and Melissa;seven great-grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews: one brother, Jack (Hazel) Burton of Quincy and one sister, Margaret "Maggie" Stinnett of Quincy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Shirley Clarkson and a son, Walter "Butch" Burton.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the St. Francis Catholic Church.

I will miss the Burtons on my Saturday Meals on Wheels route. They were always so sweet and kind. I know they had many health issues which kept them at home for the past few years but they always had a smile for me. I will miss my Saturday smiles. May they rest in peace together in heaven. Bob L.
