James “Jamie” Alan Doane

James “Jamie” Alan Doane

James "Jamie" Alan Doane, 50, of Quincy went to his eternal home on March 13th, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Jamie was born, April 15, 1966, in Quincy, a son of LeRoy and Carolyn Rottman Doane. He married his best friend and love of his life, Kristine A. Hays on August 27, 1988, at Quincy College, where they met. She survives.

Jamie was a 1984 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, where he was on the soccer team and a 1988 graduate of Quincy College. Following graduation, Jamie continued his professional career with Niemann Foods in management at the store level. His career continued in retail with Jacks, Farm and Home Store and came full circle with the last 10 years spent again at Niemann Foods, Inc. as a category buyer.

Jamie's greatest joy was his family. He was a very skilled and patient coach for the Quinsippi Soccer League, first with his nephew, then his nieces before finally coaching all three of his children. He had coached in this league for over 20 years. He also coached all three of his children at the CYO for basketball.

Jamie could always be found participating in his children's activities, whether he was playing in the pool or organizing a backyard neighborhood whiffle ball game. Jamie was also very active in both schools his children attended. Serving as a coach and June Fest chairman at St. Dominic School and serving as school board member and past president at Quincy Notre Dame.

Jamie loved to be outdoors, he couldn't wait for all the activities spring weather brought. He could always be found outside either doing yard work, washing cars, working in the garden, home improvements or cutting wood for the fireplace. He also loved planning gatherings with his extended family, Memorial Day picnics and frying turkeys for Thanksgiving.

Jamie was a member of St. Anthony Church and believed that God would always provide and give him all he needed.

In addition to his wife, Jamie is survived by his three children, Blake (Shelbi) Doane of Normal, Il., Matthew (special friend Taylor Lay), of Quincy and Mackenzie of the home and his grand puppy, Copper. Three brothers, William, Robert (Leslie), and Daniel all of Quincy. Four sisters, Taryn (Jeff) Tushaus, Vickie (Pat) Althaus, Kathy (Chris) Parker and Kim, all of Quincy, his mother-and father-in-law, William and Marcia Hays of Quincy, brother-in-law, David (Yugin) Hays of Hyde Park, UT. and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his paternal grandparents, William and Gertrude (Walton) Doane and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Rosalia (Terstriep) Rottman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church by Father Tom Donovan. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation: Thursday from: 3:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Church. Memorials: Quincy Notre Dame High School or St. Dominic School. To the family:
I will always remember that Jamie, as a Senior at QND, was so friendly to me as a new teacher back in 1983-84. He was a truly special person. I will pray that HE gives you the strength you will need in the days ahead. I will also pray that HE fills your heart and memories with only the good memories you shared with Jamie.

God Bless,
Lonny

I knew Jamie from Niemann Foods. He was a great guy who was very proud of his children. I had the pleasure of playing golf with Jamie several times and much of the conversation was about his family. I pray for comfort for his family.
