Ruth C. Holtman

Ruth C. Holtman age 95, most recently a resident of Bickford Cottage in Quincy, died on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 6:50 a.m. in Good Samaritan Home.

Ruth was born in Quincy on October 17, 1922, a daughter of Martin and Rose (Hennenkamp) Klues. She married Ralph "Chip" Holtman on October 16, 1948 in the former St. Mary Catholic Church in Quincy. Chip preceded her in death on April 27, 2006.

From 1942 until her retirement in 1981, Ruth worked at Electric Wheel Firestone as a clerk and scheduler. She was a graduate of St. Mary Grade School and Notre Dame High School.
Ruth was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Francis. Ruth very much enjoyed bowling and playing golf, as well as the friendships that those activities afforded. She excelled at both-of these sports, and in previous years competed in many local leagues and tournaments. Chip and Ruth also shared many years enjoying boating on The River, and they were longtime, active members of the Quincy Boat Club. She had been a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.

Ruth is survived by: her son, Jay G. Holtman and his wife Barbara of Houston, Texas and her grandchildren, Katherine Rose and Adam Chandler Holtman, also of Houston. Ruth was extremely proud of and greatly admired her grandchildren's accomplishments. Niece Susie (Welchert) Ohnemus and nephews Jack Klues and Bill Welchert also survive.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Wilbur, Cletus, and Roy Klues, and sisters, Grace Luhrs and Lucille Welchert.

The immediate family wants to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Susie and David Ohnemus, Rodney and Marjorie Heelan and Fr. James, Wheeler, O.F.M. who have been extremely supportive of Ruth over the past several years. Thanks are also extended to the management and staff of Bickford who cared for Ruth with respect, patience and dignity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

There is no visitation, but family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Quincy Notre Dame Foundation or St. Francis Solanus Parish, both in Quincy.
Funeral arrangements are with the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
