Dorothy Niekamp

With deep sadness, the family of Dorothy Marilyn (Wiewel) Niekamp of Quincy, announce her passing on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the age of 88 years. She was at her home and surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on February 20, 1930 in Quincy, a daughter of Francis "Bide" and Viola (Wellman) Wiewel. On September 1, 1948 she was united in marriage to Leonard "Boots" Niekamp in St. Josesph Catholic Church. He survives.

Dorothy was a devout Catholic and a long time member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Mendon. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary; and the St. Edwards Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary.

In particular, Dorothy was a loving and faithful wife for almost 70 years. She was the heart of the family and was available at any given moment to help her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was the time she shared with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a homemaker and mother to her family. She worked hard raising her children and dearly loved them all. Her passion was cooking and baking for family gatherings. She was known for her delicious sweet rolls, dinner rolls, roast beef, sweet green pickles, noodles, salsa and much more! She knew everyone's favorite food. She was well known for her turkey dressing at the St. Edwards Turkey Dinner. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and sharing her vegetables with family and friends. Her family remembers the many years that she and her friend, the late Norma Blickhan Cramm co-chaired the flower tent at the Adams County Fair. She was a yearly exhibitor at the Fair and brought home numerous blue ribbons on her canned and baked goods, as well as her flowers. She enjoyed competing against the other entries.

Dorothy and Leonard, along with her niece Jane Leffers and her husband Floyd, enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, where she would play the penny slots and sometimes walk away a winner. She was an avid card player. She would often attend the local card parties. Many evenings were spent around the kitchen table playing cards with the grandkids and great-grandkids. Above all, she loved her large family and had a generous heart.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy's family would like to thank the caregivers at Blessing Hospice for the loving care that they gave to Dorothy while she was under their care.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by:
