Norman W. McAllister

Norman W. McAllister, age 84, of Quincy died on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in Illinois Veteran Home. He was born on December 26, 1933 in Lima Township, Adams County, IL, the son of Travis N. and Violet V. (Voorhis) McAllister. He married Maxine V. Voth on March 20, 1954. She survives.

Norman graduated from Unity High School and Iowa State University with a B.S. in Agriculture. He was a lifelong farmer in the Meyer Bottoms. He served his country during the Korean War in the US Army stationed in France.

He was very active in his church, the Faith Christian Church. He was a member of the Adams County Farm Bureau, Ursa Farmers Coop, Board of Director of the Lima Lake Drainage District, Illinois Flying Farmers, Illinois Corn Growers Association, Golden Kiwanis and Director of North Adams State Bank.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Kevin (Sharon) McAllister of Warsaw, IL; Brian (Julie) McAllister of Ursa, IL; His siblings, Mary Jo (Louis) Ortega of San Antonio, TX; Patricia Alden of Grand Junction, CO; Gary (Lois) McAllister of Half Moon Bay, CA; five grandchildren: Derek (Rebecca) McAllister; Travis (Kristin) McAllister; Emily (fiancé, Chris) McAllister; Tyler McAllister; Brooke McAllister; four great-grandchildren: Ava, Evie, Claire and Briar. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home. Interment with military honors in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home. Visitation will be held at the Chapel from 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Faith Journey Church.
