Vernon Francis Kaltenbach

Vernon Francis Kaltenbach, age 83, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, died on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on July 25, 1932 in Quincy, a son of Alois & Marguerite (Schmidt) Kaltenbach. He married Patricia Dietrich on April 21, 1956 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1996.

Mr. Kaltenbach was a 1950 graduate of Liberty High School. He served in the U.S. Army. He received an Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and a National Defense Service Medal.

He retired after 38 years of service with Gardner Denver. He was a member of the machinist union and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed attending monthly retiree lunches at the machinist lodge and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and served as an usher for over forty years. He was active in Cursillo.

Other hobbies included mushroom hunting, bowling, gardening (growing enough tomatoes for everyone) and traveling. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. He enjoyed spending time with his longtime friend and companion, Betty Hudson.

He is survived by:
THREE SONS, Tom Kaltenbach and his wife Sharli of Evanston, WY, Dan Kaltenbach and his wife Linda of Quincy and Chris Kaltenbach of Concord, MI;
TWO DAUGHTERS, Susan Frese and her fiancée David Russell of Quincy and Kathy Cadieu and her significant other Donald J. Hocker;
TEN GRANDCHILDREN, Vern Kaltenbach, Patty (Ryan) Clark, Amanda (Nick Burgess) Cadieu, Garrah (Chris) Nichols, Carlie Cadieu, Zachary (Nena) Kaltenbach, Victor Kaltenbach, Kylor Kaltenbach, Devin Minear and Leah Grace Kaltenbach;
ELEVEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN

TWO SISTERS, Marcella Fessler of Quincy and Sabina (Glenn) Fessler of Fowler, IL;

In addition to his wife, Patricia, and his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Alois Kaltenbach, a sister Mary Elizabeth Davidson, a brother, Fr. Victor Kaltenbach, one sister-in-law, Connie Kaltenbach and two brothers-in-law, Dale Fessler and Roger Davidson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish or masses in his name.
