Lauren Herman Kahn

Lauren Herman Kahn, age 93, of 1707 N 12th St., Fifer-C, Quincy, IL 62301, formerly of 8241 N. Canary Dr., Stillman Valley, IL 61084, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Veterans Home. He was born on April 20, 1924 in Rochester, Minnesota the son of Herman W. Kahn and Helen (Graham) Kahn. He married Marie (Roekle) Kahn on May 18, 1957 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Whitehall, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2017.

He was a farmer from 1952-1966. Then he began his career with Allis Chalmers which eventually led him to Swift and Company until his retirement in 1989.

He served in World War II in Saipan, Tinian, Marianas Islands, Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands. He was awarded the Good Conduct Metal, Purple Heart with One Gold Star, and Navy Cross for gallantry in action.

Lauren was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Dixon, IL, and loved Jesus.

He was a member of the VFW Dixon, Franklin Grove American Legion, Franklin Grove Historical Society, Chaplin Creek Muzzle Loaders. Lauren was an avid fisherman and loved having his family together.

Lauren is survived by his children: Sons: Mike Kahn, Philip Kahn, Mark Kahn; Daughters: Karla (Jim) Heim, Norma Kahn, Renee (David) Atlee, Melanie (Mark) Majors, and Melody (James) Wartian;
Nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Harold Kahn and Oral Kahn and a sister, Caroline (Kahn) Bedtka.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home. Interment in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
