Donald E. "Don" Terwelp
Donald E. "Don" Terwelp age 86, of Quincy died on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. in Sunset Home. Don was born October 18, 1929 in Quincy a son of Henry and Alvina (Mescher) Terwelp. He married Dora M. Patterson on May 14, 1949 in Quincy's St. Boniface Catholic Church, she preceded him in death on May 17, 2000.
After graduating from Notre Dame High School, Don worked at Firestone/Electric Wheel Company as a machinist for 35 years. After retiring from Firestone, he completed heating and air-conditioning training at Vatterott Technical School. He was a longtime member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and a member of South Side Boat Club.
Don was an avid sportsman who loved being outdoors. He especially loved to go hunting and fishing. Don was always ready to play a good game of cards.
Survivors include his children: Dan Terwelp and his wife Sharon of Liberty; Randy Terwelp and his wife Marjorie of Payson; Sandy Miller; Gary Terwelp and his wife Cheryl all of Quincy; A special friend, Vivian Reckers of Quincy; A sister, Jeanette Winking and her husband Marvin of Quincy; eleven grandchildren, Tony Terwelp and his wife Jenny; Katie Bailey and her husband Tom; Betsy Prehn and her husband Andy; Mike Terwelp and his wife Jean; Kevin Terwelp; Brian Terwelp and his wife Becky; Janet Morton and her husband Brad; Shawn Ericson; Evan Ericson; Jacob Terwelp; James Terwelp and his wife Tera.
Eleven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and their wives, Herb (Florence) Terwelp; Virgil (Marian) Terwelp; two grandsons, Patrick and Joshua Terwelp and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Terwelp.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Grade School.
- I know so many of your family. I am so sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. The loss of a parent/grandparent is tough regardless the age. My prayer for you all is that the comfort and peace of the Holy Spirit shower you with the knowledge that Don is "God's Hands".
