John Paul Peterson

John Paul Peterson

John Paul Peterson of 108 Knollwood Drive in Quincy, Illinois passed away on April 18, 2016. He was born on July 1, 1952 in Jacksonville, Illinois, and was the son of Paul and Louise (Campbell) Peterson. John married his best friend, Jane (Bozarth) Peterson, on February 16, 1985 at St. Francis Solanus Church in Quincy. She survives.

He went to Franklin Elementary and Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Illinois. He also attended Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL

Besides his wife, John is survived by his children—Jordan (Taelor) Peterson of Quincy, Sarah Peterson, and her fiancé, Dalton Schaller of Great Falls, Montana. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Witlee, Wyat, and Wesleigh Peterson. He leaves three brothers—Eric (Jane), Mark (Jill), and Ray (Marcia), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete, as he was known, was loved by his many relatives and friends. He was someone they could talk to about anything, and he always had a listening ear and an understanding heart. He was known to have a smile on his face and time to give anyone who needed him.

However, more than anything in the world, Pete loved to be outdoors with his family and especially enjoyed taking them to Star Lake in Wisconsin where he'd meet his brothers and their families. He'd been going to Star Lake since he was an infant and passed his love of the place to his kids and grandkids. He also loved to spend time at the family farm. He could always be seen walking his dog since he rescued so many.

Pete will be remembered as a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. He was always involved in his kids' activities. Nothing was more important to him than family. He supported Jane in her career, which meant her being away a lot. He welcomed his nieces and nephews into his home and treated them as his own. With his wife he was a treatment foster parent for Chaddock, which made a difference in the lives of many young people. He was a mentor for Scouts while serving as a den leader for Pack 5 and scoutmaster for Troop 5 at St Peter's Parish. He encouraged and helped many achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Two of his greatest achievements were his son Jordan achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and his daughter Sarah graduating from WIU and working as a Child Protection Specialist in Child and Family Services in Montana. He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Church and was instrumental in starting the food pantry there.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Chaddock, the Boy Scout Troop #5 of St. Peter's Parish or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Jane, Jordan and Sarah:

I am very sorry for your loss. John was a wonderful and giving person. I truly enjoyed tge time that we spent together when my son AJ and Jordan were in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and seeing them both earning Eagle Scout. John also had a positive influence on my other two sons Matthew and Mark who also earn Eagle Scout.

Whenever I son John we always had a good visit.

I will pray for best possible results for all of you.
